  Jonah 3:11 sez:

  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

  God is allowed to change his mind (via "regret") when He's demonstrating His Amazing Grace and Infinite Mercy.

  However, He's also immutable, which means He cannot change His mind, per 1 Samuel 15:29:

  "And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind."

  Ehhh, just don't think about it: it'll make your life MUCH easier as a JW.

  PS regret is a 'surprise' emotion, hence inconsistent for an omniscient being who knows future events (I like to say that someone cannot sneak up on God and go, "BOO!!" to elicit a startle response from Him, since God already knows you're coming).

  Like I say, don't think about that one, either.... Get behind me, Logic! (eh, I mean Satan!)

  Actually, they did. He totally made up the Judge part to make himself look more imposing.

  YOU would question King Solomon's wisdom on a legal point? WHY, I OUTTA CUT YOU IN HALF, LIKE AN INFANT! MARTHA! WHERE'S MY SWORD?!? :)

  According to the Wikipedia bibliography:

  Rutherford spent two years as a judge's intern, became an official court reporter at age 20, and was admitted to the Missouri bar in May 1892 at age 22. [ 23 ] He became a trial lawyer for a law firm [ 24 ] and later served for four years in Boonville as a public prosecutor. He campaigned briefly for Democratic presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan. [ 25 ] He was appointed as a Special Judge in the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri, [ 23 ] [ 26 ] [ 27 ] [ 28 ] sitting as a substitute judge at least once when a regular judge was unable to hold court. [ 22 ] As a result of this appointment he became known by the sobriquet "Judge" Rutherford.

  Hmmm, so sitting "at least one time" for a case no doubt involving a farm boundary qualifies him to be called a "Judge". And if "at least two survive" qualifies JWs to claim protection of the "group".

  inspired by a recent post on jehovah's witnesses kooky urban legends, a question comes to mind.. jehovah's witnesses can talk to a killer and he won't do anything with that angel guarding them.

  a demon can be cast out by calling out for jehovah.

  in a yearbook, a man's talking snake is silenced by the mere presence of a witness.. so why are there pedophiles roaming free in kingdom halls?.

  Yup, you're asking good questions, no doubt about it.

  If an angel can intimidate a murderer (sadistic murderer was the phrase used) into not harming a couple of J Dub Door Knockers, where are these angels when a child rapist is about to harm a child in "the tuth?"

  I guess suggesting that angels may be sympathic to pedophilia wouldn't help anything, would it? ;)

  A hole in logic like this might make people...

  Except for the fact that many people don't react to logic (like you and I do): they respond to emotions, feelings, etc.

  Bottom line is this: we cannot control the actions of others, except for arguably the small group of family and friends with whom you have any sway.

  You cannot save the World, only arguably those around you and yourself ("Saving the World" is a flawed assumption most JWs fall for and accept, thinking THEY are part of a grand solution to save the World. I carried it even after out of the "Truth", and it took YEARS to recognize and accept it).

  Being alive

  hello, i am (almost) new here, and in the beginning i didn't really think that i would ever post something here.

  but then.... yesterday i had a little experience, nothing important , people who haven't been in the organisation have probably a hard time to understand why it's even worth talking (writing) about.

  but i though if there are people who can relate to it, they are here, and if not this post will just disappear in the internet and no harm was done.. i was walking my friends' dogs in the evening sun, not thinking about anything.

  Yup, you've experiened a spiritual insight that's quite apart from the beliefs of any religion, an awareness of the fact you do not need any ANY external organization to TELL you what the experience of being alive is SUPPOSED to be about. It's called having an epiphany; don't forget the message. :)

  How Do You Think The Watchtower IT Department Is Responding To The Anonymous Threat?

  so anonymous has declared its intentions to utterly destroy the watchtower society.

  this will likely include attacking the official websites and trying to obtain the database of 23,000+ pedophiles in the organization.. i have never served at bethel so i would appreciate the input of those who have.

  do you think they are taking this threat seriously?.

  Why would Anonymous not hack first and talk about it later?

  Why forewarn the borg?

  My gut tells me that someone has already hacked in and gotten the desired files long ago (maybe weeks, or months?), but are now playing it up to get public's attention and make them sweat before divulging the info....

  That would be the smart way to do it, from a PR standpoint....

  JW Urban Legend - The Demonised Teddy Bear

  if you're from north london and were a witness during the late eighties and early nineties, there's a good chance you would have heard it.. i was lucky enough to have played a part in the actual account!.

  Back in the early 1970s, a story was circulating about how a ouija board disintegrated when asked what was going to happen in 1975

  Bill, I was there: it happened in CA. (and nearly burned down the house!). I'm still shook up about it to this day, and wouldn't believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes <shudder...>

  Your urban lengend reminded me of an an anecdote that IS real:

  My family was sitting in the living room during book study (held at our house), and it was almost over. I noticed that there were a few of these tiny little whitish snowflakes floating around in the air. I noticed them first, and tried to catch one, but it disintegrated (very delicate little things). There were a few others, and they were fun to play with (I nudged my brother, and he joined in on the fun, too).

  A few seconds later, others in book study started to notice them, and one of the adults was smart enough to ask, "where are they coming from?"

  Turns out I had forgotten to snuff out a candle that was burning in my room, and it set fire to a near-by hanging poster! No fire-men needed to be called, but I got in DEEP trouble for nearly burning down the family home AND killing all the friends attending book-study, LOL!

  my workmates jw friend of 30 years has deleted her from facebook

  this lady is quite new to my workplace and we got chatting and she asked how i met my husband etc ... after i finished telling her of my jw experiances she said i could write a book and i really should !

  she said she has a friend who shes known for 30 years and she became a jw about 15 years ago and this friend had recently deleted her off her friends list !

  she also said this friend likes to play bingo which she presumed wouldnt be allowed in the religion so had thought it cant be all that strict in that religion !!!!!

  I've seen that happen even with family. Recently, my wife's JW cousin "unfriended" her from FB because a few non-JW were wishing my wife happy birthday and she was being polite and thanking them. Stupid cult.

  WHAT?!? She missed an opportunity to witness to others, explaining why she doesn't celebrate birthdays? ;)

  Although, it does raise the question if time spent on FB witnessing can be counted on the time sheet (JWs can write letters and stuff envelopes, and count THAT: what's the diff)?

  Yeah, Bobcat, I suppose that applies, if he's looking for delay tactics that can be used to avoid DFing. Pretty worthless, otherwise: bottom-line is they don't care what anyone cares, unless it's printed by them in a publication.

  He might as well just invoke his Constitutional right against self-incrimination (as if THAT'LL carry any weight! JWs don't apply Constitutional principles when dealing with their own, ALTHOUGH that's not from a lack of understanding what the Constitution says: they sure can argue for their 1st amendment right of free speech, which allows them to engage in street-work and knock on doors!)

  Tell them you have been doing research to fortify your beliefs and understanding of how Russell came up with 1914 based upon his belief of pyramidology.

  Uh-oh: that's the ONE exception that means they don't need to convene a body first, resulting in removing the apostates tongue, and Instant Extra-Strength DF!

  Have you experienced a good, satisfying pleonasm lately?

  pleonasm is defined as "the use of more words than those necessary to denote mere sense.".

  through the almost 8 years i've been on jw discussion groups i've experienced many pleonasms.

  many caused by me!.

  Uh, I didn't read all that, but can anyone briefly tell me what Terry's having a pleonasm over, this time? :)

  Answer is simple: don't read anything you don't like. No ones paying anybody to be here...

  i look at all, but quickly move on if they don't capture my attention.

  Skip over long posts: I do. (although the most interesting I read today was a thread discussing the tie-in between 12 tribes and astrology: some may not enjoy that kind of thing, but to each their own).

  I often skip over short posts, too (some thoughts take more words to convey).

  What appeals to one may not appeal to all. It's not like there's going to be a quiz, making sure you've read every last post?

  Ps i'd choose a pleonasm any day over a neoplasm: those are NO FUN (and very boring).

  Wouldn't you just LOVE to be a fly on the wall and hear what they said to each other on the long car ride home?

  Do you think they talked about what they're going to have to do (converge the body), discuss scriptural tactical mistakes they made, or (gasp!) dared to discuss the challenges to their faith you brought up?

  I'm going with the first option (what fun is being an Elder if you don't get to convene the body and DF someone?)...
